A Dreamy Destination Wedding on a Private Island in Belize
When Meredith and James asked me to photograph their destination wedding in Belize, the only answer was HELL YES! (Cue excited jumping and happy dances.)
I absolutely love destination weddings. Since moving from the East Coast to the mountains of Colorado (aka living in a destination) I’ve had fewer chances to travel for weddings. What used to be two to three destination weddings a year became none for three years… until this. And let me tell you, this one was worth the wait!
There’s something truly magical about whisking your closest friends and family away from daily life and landing on a secluded tropical island like St. George’s Caye. Everything slows down. Everything comes into focus. (Or maybe that’s just the extra oxygen at sea level compared to living at 10,000 feet? Ha!)
The day of the wedding was pure perfection. I’ve known Meredith for years. We first met in Mexico at a retreat for creative entrepreneurs. She’s a powerhouse of a woman, a champion of ethical fashion, and someone who loves with her whole heart. And James? One of the kindest, most grounded people I’ve ever met. It was an honor to be part of their wedding journey.
Meredith got ready in a beachfront home with dreamy ocean views, while James prepped in an over water cabana. Their families were full of joy, and the ceremony on the beach was as beautiful as the love between them. Afterward, guests sipped cocktails in the gardens before heading into dinner and dancing under the stars.
And then—my favorite photo of the day.
As night fell and clouds rolled in, I had a vision for a shot that would capture the entire feeling of this day: romantic, wild, and completely unforgettable. Meredith and James were totally on board, as always. I set up the lighting, positioned them just right, grabbed a kayak (thank you, all-inclusive resort!), and paddled out into the ocean with my camera.
The water was calm, the scene was surreal, and the final shot? One of my all-time favorites.
